The education qualification for appearing in the JEE examination is 10+2 examination and the candidates who are appearing in 10+2 examination can also appear in the JEE examinations with the condition that they must qualify the 10+2 examination at the time of declaration of result of the JEE main. As already stated, there are two types of examination, one is JEE main and other is JEE advance. For admission in IITs, the candidates have to qualify both these examination and the weightage of 10+2 examination have also been added while preparing the merit list. Other than IITs, the admission in NITs, IIITs and other government added institutions, are being giving admission on the valid score of JEE main.
Earlier the pattern was different for the admission in the IITs and in other institutions commonly known as IIITs, NITs and other reputed institutes and the same was known as All India Engineering Entrance Examination in short known as AIEEE, but in 2012 it has been divided in two parts i.e. JEE main and JEE advance. The examination for both these patterns will be on the basis of 10+2 level studies and the candidates have to prepare Physics, Chemistry and mathematics and equal questions have to be asked in these three subjects and the candidates have to qualify in each sections of these subjects. Therefore, the candidates should have to prepare every section perfectly.
In the syllabus of JEE main and JEE advance is almost same because the paper has been settled on the basis of 10+2 level physic, chemistry and mathematics. In the JEE main examination, the question paper will carry 360 marks and there will be 90 questions and 30 questions from each sections i.e. physics, chemistry and mathematics. Every question carry 4 marks and there will be negative marking and 1/4th will be deducted for every wrong answer. The candidates have to keep this fact in mind and not to attempt the question about which they are not sure.
The candidates can prepare for these examination at their home and many candidates are qualifying these examinations and have successfully obtained their degrees from the IITs and other reputed institutes. But many candidates are taking the help of the coaching institutes for cracking these examinations. The coaching institutes by way of mock test etc. are giving the guidance for the skillful attempting the question paper meant for the admission in the IITs and other institutions. Some of the candidates are not aware of the pattern of the examination and due to the lack of their knowledge about this, they included themselves in the list of failures. But the coaching institutes are advising the candidates how to attempt the question paper and how to manage the time for attempting the paper. Some candidates are having the answers of questions, but cannot attempt those questions due to shortage of time and cannot qualify the same. So, the preparation and attempting the question papers should be balanced, because the candidate have to qualify in each of the section.
